Athletics: The Schoolgirl Rumeshika rise above stars at the first day of Asian Championship

Rumeshika Ratnayake of Kegalle St Josephs College through to the Finals of the Asian Athletics Championships 100m Womens finals with her personal best today(03).

Rumeshika who has shattered Damayanthi Darsha's Junior National Record end her heat of 100m as 3rd with a promising time of 11.87secs at her very first prominent championship to qualify semi finals. She continued her blistering run in the Semi Finals to raise eye brows of regional contenders as a 18 year girl by clocking the personal best of 11.73 Secs. She ended the semi Finals as third and will place eighth in overall standing. The promising run of Rumeshika secured that she is in top eight in the Asian Region in 100m Women's Category. Rumeshika were in 10th slop when comparing to personal best timing of contenders. 
Chandrika Subashini Rasanyake do qualified to the final after winning her heat comprehensively by clocking 54.18 Secs to place 4th overall. However she was no near of her personal best of 52.36 Secs.

She is standing 4th overall behind MACHETTIRA RAJU of India (52.94) , YANG HUIZHEN of China (53.68) & YULIA RAKHMANOVA of Kazakhstan (54.00) 

The fastest men of Sri Lanka school boy Himasha Eshan couldn't make his way to final as he end 13th overall today. He has clocked 10.73 secs in the Heat as 4th was only able to place 4th in the semi finals with the time of 10.52secs to satisfiy as 13th overall.


The final competitor of Sri Lanka C.S. Somawardana contested at the 21st Asian Athletics Championships placed 10th in his event of 1500m mens finals. 


He was only able to clock 3:52.68 mins while he bearing a personal best of 3:47.83 mins
