Chefs de Missions arrived Shilong - South Asian Games

The Chefs de Mission of all eight participating nations arrived here in Meghalaya today for a meeting to discuss with members of the Organising Committee of the 12th South Asian Games all aspects surrounding the disciplines to be held here during the February 5-16 event. During the meeting, presentations were made on the attractions of Shillong, special features of the city and its sports legacy. Technical sessions followed on the medical, accommodation and security aspects.
The Chefs de Mission will inspect all the venues for the eight disciplines to be held in Shillong. "The preparatory work is making good progress, with 95 per cent of the renovation work to the Shillong venues complete. The Organising Committee should take charge of all the venues before January 26," South Asian Games Organising Committee (Shillong) CEO R K Sharma said.

He also assured that ideal accommodation has been arranged for all of the hundreds of athletes and team officials who are expected to descend on Shillong for the Games. Joint CEO and Meghalaya Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary FR Kharkongor championed this edition of the tournament as the Gender Equal Games, saying that womens events have been added to every discipline where possible. This will make the South Asian Games 2016 bigger than any of the previous editions, taking the total medal events to over 200, SAG Advisor RK Sacheti informed.
