Seniors not clicked, juniors not performed - Angelo Mathews
Sri Lanka was a team with handful of seniors who had taken the team always to victory said standing captain Angelo Mathews yesterday after the defeat against India in Asia Cup.
Mathews who is standing as the captain in absence of T20 captain Lasith Malinga, expressed the frustration of the team after losing the crucial game in the tournament. Sri Lanka now has to wait for results of the Pakistan vs Bangladesh for the final chance of appearing in the finals.
"Specially tournament like Asia cup and World Cup you should have alot of seniors in the team." "unfortunately we haven't clicked, and it will take bit of time for younger guys to start and performing. Unfortunately this is not the right time to be patience, in the Asia Cup and in the World Cup."
Angelo's statement hinted an error of the selection for a tournament like Asia Cup and World T20 by including number of youngsters rather without considering seniors.
"Everyone must take the responsibility not only seniors, juniors as well." Angelo further said that this period isn't the best span to do more experiments."I don't think this is the time to sort of make that massive change, whatever the selectors and captain thinks. I'm just the standing captain. I don't really know what the selectors and the captain were thinking is.."
We learnt that selectors are not involving in this tournament as the SLC made a decision not to include on tour selector for this tour&concluded tour to India as well.
Then who is responsible for selections ?
The statement of Test and ODI captain of Sri Lanka Angelo Mathews raising big question regarding the selection&management policy of players for these tours.
