Nimesha Madushani Siriwardane of Galenbidunuwewa Central won the 3rd Medal for Sri Lanka at the second day of the Asian Junior Athletic Championships held today. Nimesha won the Silver Medal in the Womens High Jump event.

The Gold Medal for the same event was won by Wu Meng Chia of Taipe who jumped a height of 1.79m effortlessly while Li Xiao Yun of China won the Bronze Medal with a heigh of 1.76m.

Nimesha, a 16 year old student of Anuradhapura Galenbidunuwewa Central College and her coach Nishan Herath attended a media briefing held this evening at the venue after the event where she expressed the difficulties she had to face training in an area with the bare minimum facilities available in her village. Coach Nishan speaking at the briefing said that there were many other talented athletes in the area he works in and who are willing to represent the country but due to financial problems have no way of bringing out their talents into the bigger arena.

The CricTurf team at the event today was also able to notice that many athletes from Sri Lanka who participated in the event with their own equipment and gear which was not of internationally accepted standards probably due to the financial situation those athletes have to face.

The CricTurf team would also like to wish Nimesha and all the other Sri Lankan athletes participating in the event the best of luck in the times to come.

Sri Lanka won 3 Medals so far with help of two gold Medals in 400m Men's & Womans Finals.
