The Annual Under 19 Rugby Big match between Prince of Wales' College, Moratuwa and Science College, Mt Lavinia for MEC Fernando Challenge trophy held today(05) at SR & FC Grounds Longdon Place.
The annual big match was held for the fourth time and the previous challenge won by Science College MT Lavinia. Prince of Wales College end their School Rugby season as Number 01 College in Division "C" and Science College was at 6th with four wins in Division "A" league. Science College entered to the annual encounter as favorites, but Prince of Wales lads showed their potential to keep the game balance till the half time whistle.
The match commence in front of both schools supporters and rugby loving public. Both schools tried hard to cross the score line and defend their line to prevent opponent to score.
Science College broken the dead lock of the match and Scored two tries under the post and covertion were success to get them to a clear win. Richard Dharmapala & Hashan Maduranga were the only try scorers of the match and Prince Chamara succeeded in both conversion to top Science at 60th minute of the match 14 to nil.
Both school supporters involved in to a tense situation 10 mins before to stop the match, spectators and supporters involved to the situation and the game halt by referees. Match couldn't start after the incident and suspect spectators were removed from the premises by Police.
The match called off after the interference and no major injuries were reported, we learnt that parents, college staff and coaching staff should take more responsible to refrain such situation's in school sports activities and the example will carry to the next level of the game, discipline is the most essential part of any game and it help to build disciplinary personals.
