Sri Lanka’s Minister of Sports, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, today instructed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to pay the pending salaries to its contracted cricketers by February 28.

Members of the Sri Lanka national cricket team and other contracted cricketers by SLC had not been paid due to lack of funds for several months.
Concerns were raised by other Test playing nations of the payment delay the Sri Lankan cricketers have been facing in the recent months.
According to a local television channel, the Minister had negotiated a national banking corporation to bail out SLC in paying the cricketers, which amounts to Sri Lankan rupees 600 million.
Minister Aluthgamage also in writing, had instructed the officials of SLC not to overlook contract payments in the future.
The central contracts between the SLC and Sri Lanka cricketers is due to expire on February 28.
