With the player drafts for the Sri Lanka Premier League happening just before the weekend starts, most sports columns in local papers on Sunday. With the Indian Premier League paying in hundreds of thousands of dollars to the players, one main point of interest in the SLPL was the player salaries.
With the preliminary squads being chosen with 8 overseas players and 12 local players for each team and the head coach for the teams also being appointed, the salaries of the players have now come to light through a local Sunday newspaper, the “Sunday Times” published on the 8th of July 2012.
Chris Gayle from West Indies who was the highest run scorer in the recently concluded IPL is being paid the most in the tournament with a salary of US$ 100,000 while Shahid Aridi from Pakistan is the only non-iconic player to be paid US$ 50,000.
