(8th August) Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., India's leading SUV and vehicle manufacturer who also has a strong presence in Sri Lanka has landed the title sponsor deal for the inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League tournament which is to start this weekend.
"We are thrilled to be associated with the SLPL. With the leading lights of world cricket in the fray, we are positive that this League will be a huge success." said Mr. Ruzbeh Irani, the Chief Executive of International Operations -Automobile and Farm Sectors of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. who also further said "Partnering (with) SLPL endorses Mahindra's commitment to promote a sporting and active lifestyle"
Furthermore, the league which was initially named "Sri Lanka Premier League" will now be rechristened as "Mahindra Sri Lanka Premier League" or in short "Mahindra SLPL" said Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket Mr.Upali Dharmadasa.
The deal also includes the "Mahindra Man of the Match" award for each of the 24 matches to be played and a Mahindra XUV5OO for the winner of the Man of the Tournament award.
SLPL is set to start this Friday 10th August with an invitation only Opening Ceremony at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium and the first match is due to be played on the 11th of August at the R.Premadasa Stadium. The event is also to be "delay streamed" on YouTube while live broadcast will be on ESPN and Star Cricket and on CSN in Sri Lanka.
