28, August 2012 (Cricturf): Tournament favorites Wayamba United's champions league dreams got washed away by the fantastic performances of giants in Uva Next team Jacob Oram (41) and Chandrapaul (50*) today(28) at R Premadasa Stadium.
Sri Lanka Premier League's 1st semi final took place between tournament' favorite Wayamba United and Uva Next. Uva captain Thilina Kandambi won the toss and elected to bat first and they were able to post a mammoth score of of 171 at the end of their 20 overs. Jecob Oram of New Zealand shhowed his capability of accelerating runs by scoring a demostrative inning of 41 runs in 17 deliveries with 5 sixes to uplift Uva Uva platform was initially built up by its openers but importantly by Chandrapaul of West Indies with his unbeaten 50 runs in 50 deliveries.
Wayamba Started their inning under pressure as they were lost their premiere batsman under a par score. Wayamba lost their first seven wickets in just 27 runs by marking the biggest disappointment of the tournament so far. However, after the top order and the middle order failed to do their task, former Pakistan all rounder Azar Mahmood and Sri Lankan youngster isuru Udana played a fantastic innings with a great partnership of 120 runs for the 8th wicket which gave hopes of a win to Wayamba at a stage. The lack of wickets affected Wayamba even though Azhar on the other hand held his wicket till the end.
Uva Next won the 1st Semi Final of the inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League by 20 runs and will face the finals with the winner of the second semi final. The 2nd Semi finals of the SLPL will play between Nagenahira Nagas versus Kandurata Warriors tomorrow (29) and it will decide finalists.
