SAARCT20: Centurion Anjelo keeps Sri Lanka on top

04, Nov 2011 (Cricket Turf): Sri Lanka under 23 team who is participating for SAARC Under 25 T20 tournament played their 2nd and the last pool match against India (Karnataka Academy) team today in Fuvahmulah Cricket ground, Maldives.

Sri Lanka entered to the game at must win situation to enter semi finals after losing against Pakistan last evening.

Sri Lanka scored 257/8 in their 20 overs with the help of Angelo Perera's (Vice Captain)  Stunning innings of 133*. Sri Lanka lost their front row players at early stage of the match, Bhanuka Rajapaksha started his innings aggressively and scored a quick 24 and got out as 3rd wicket. Anjelo joined the game by smashing the very first ball down the boundary line drive Sri Lanka's broken innings ahead.

21 year all rounder Angelo Scored 133* in just 54 deliveries with 15 sixes with the great support by captain Umesh Karunarathna who helped in rotating the strike frequently. The innings of Angelo can be called as match winning innings under pressure. Going furthermore from his today's performance, he is also the leading run scorer of the tournament in 3 Matches.

He scored an unbeaten 42* against Nepal at Sri Lanka's 1st match of the SAARC tournament against Nepal and his aggressive innings helped Sri Lanka to reach 240/4 . 

Angelo Perera was a school boy cricketer from St. Peters College and obtained his colours to represent Sri Lanka Under 19  squad at the age of 17 in 2007, and represented the tri nation under 19 tournament. Angelo was awarded as the Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer in 2009 which was organized by Sunday Observer & Mobitel. He started his List A career for NCC and played his debut in 2009 against Baduraliya SC.

We have one Anjelo who is heading towards leading the Sri Lankan team one day and here is another Anjelo who is an up coming star coming forward while proving his talent with the hope of representing the country to make it proud one day. Wishing all the very best to Anjelo for all his future as a cricketer.

Sri Lanka Under 23's Won by 141 Runs and qualified to the Semi Finals.
